Kindred used to charge a small monthly amount, with an upgrade tier above it. Both were withdrawn in September 2026. Not discounted, not free for a while, not free for early members — removed, and the billing code was deleted from the app along with them. There is nothing left that can take a payment.
The honest reason is that an app for meeting people is worth nothing when it is empty, and every payment screen is one more reason to leave before you have seen anything. A dollar was never going to fund this; it was only ever going to thin out the room. So it is free, for everyone, and it stays that way.
No advertising, no analytics, no tracking, nothing sold or shared. Not as a promise about our intentions — there is no third party service inside the app that could receive any of it. This was the reason to charge in the first place, and it is the promise a free app most often breaks. Read the privacy policy: it is short, and it is specific about what is collected and what is not.
Some things were never for sale and are not now available to anyone: seeing a photo or a name before day 3, anybody's exact location, and the private rating somebody gave a meetup with them. There are no boosts and no priority placement either. Those mechanics work by making the ordinary experience worse, and once you have built that you cannot stop.

Open KindredKindred does not run background checks and does not verify that anyone is who they say they are. No app does, whatever it implies. Meet somewhere public the first few times, tell someone where you are going, sort out your own way home, and never send anyone money. The safety section is honest about exactly what we do and what we cannot do.
